I was never good in algebra, sooo I was confused when my math is not mathing (my initial answer after reading the problem was 34).. then I saw her answer, so my brain was paralyzed for a time. Until I read the comments… LMAO

They forgot to add “double” doneness in that question. It should say…
“Q. A mother is 3 years older twice the age of Oscar. The father is 5 years older than the mother.
If the Father is 42, calculate Oscar Manuel’s age.”
That is the problem that matches what she wrote when she solved it.

Mother = x+3
Father = mother+5
If father = 42
m+5=42
m=42-5.
m=37
X+3=37
X=37-3
X=34
How the heck does she get 17???
