There isn’t much merciful about being burned alive.
But killing them by something nicer like hypothermia (feels like a warm nap) isn’t as visually compelling I suppose.

Yeah, I think that was supposed to be a mercy kill on the siblings. She has them all locked up down there and they may be “failed” but who knows if she’s still experimenting on them and/or torturing them. He has no way to actually free them since there’s too many and it’s probably deep in their estate. Also, considering his original future of dying young, they might not have a long lifespan either. It’s sad but he probably saw this as the only option and wanted to end their pain as soon as possible :/
