I’d like to know why so many Korean authors think it’s a good idea to store rare books in a castle basement.
People–modern archives and research libraries store the antique stuff in basements because those rooms are specially designed TEMPERATURE, and more importantly MOISTURE CONTROLLED VAULTS. The reason so much has survived from ancient Egypt is because those papyrus scrolls and wall murals were kept dry, Dry, DRY in DESERT TOMBS, and only underground in the sense that they were buried under several tons of worked stone.
We stored (and still do) wines, root vegetables and sometimes meats in cellars to keep them cool and moderately MOIST because cold air holds more water and the ground keeps that temperature stable.
Unless the whole library is magically protected from mildew and OXYDATION, storing valuable records in a secret dungeon is a very poor idea.
