@.. totally agree. There really is no excuse for his treatment to a mere child, “his child” at that. Those words he uttered, definitely no coming back from that. For such a young child, to hear such words from her father, how devastating is that? So devastating that she literally “killed” herself by completely shutting down. She is a “that” to him, not even a human being, but a “that.” The fact that he said those degrading hurtful words fully knowing she’s right there behind the door spoke volume of his vile heart. In fact I find it hard to believe that she comes to “love” (if you could call that) her at all. That “unnecessary attention” is her right as a child of her parent. Tell me, which kids doesn’t want the attention of their parent? Especially when none was ever given to her.

If you think about it, the emperor was so blind when he lost his wife he didn’t pay attention to his child, he didn’t even try to make things better letting an innocent child pay for his inabillity to move on after his loss. Also If he was better back then he surely would be able to see the similarity between Philomel and that woman. I mean irl this is not that obvious but since they always make children and parents so similar in novels and manhwas let’s say that there is a possibility he could connect the puzzle pieces.. So, dear emperor, you should get a precious lesson from all of this and be more careful, abandoning your life is the easy solution, but now you’ve gathered for yourself so many problems.. To all the people that feel bad for the emperor… don’t. He is an asshole, he treated Philomel like a shit for 9 years he didn’t care for her, and it’s not because of the book that Philomel doesn’t trust the emperor and she left it’s because when she was 9 years old she heard him say that he wishes that would “Live as quiet as dead rat” (spoilers While he was saying that he new that Philomel was right behind the door and that she was listening to him). In that exact moment Philomel understood that the emperor will never love or care for her and that was also the moment she shut her heart for all the people around her including the emperor. HE is one of the shitest dads i have ever read about. You can not describe how many times he has hurt Philomel. He hurt her when she was the most vulnerable, there is no coming back when it comes to his words. He might think that she forgot or that she forgive him but it never happend, not even once has she shown her true feelings towards him it was all an act so he wouldn’t kill her in the future. Don’t feel bad for him he did it himself he absoultly desreves it.

Not really, but he didn’t have time to process his grief; he thought the nanny was good how would he know his daughters nanny was horrible, he’d been raised in worse conditions so he thought his parenting was better… but taking a child’s hand in the matter is something more than my parents would’ve done except to punish me, to drag me to hell, and it means he’s an okayish person. I can see why she would trust a book it didn’t burn, and she didn’t have anything at that time, but I don’t understand putting unwavering trust in a book. Besides they frame the king purposefully to be pitiable an okayish person who was redeeming shit he’d done, putting the image of his grief in front of him with his bio daughter all while losing someone he’d come to care for. He’s pitiable and that’s really the point I’m not gonna shame the FL for not being able to trust him, I just feel bad for him.
