@Formidable I mean the truth in this story. I might forgive Eustace is he wasn’t such a coward but he is. To me, forgiveness is a gift that can only be given if the remorseful party is honest about their wrongs. But, Eustace is still trying to cover it up. (Also, I never said I liked Claude, only that his situation was a bit different. I still don’t like him.)

@Meeeep If you mean by the whole truth that Claude cursed himself in order to forget the pain, knowing full well that he has a daughter he should taken care off, then yeah, i know it. Also didnt the guy murder and burn Atties palace and only barely hold himself back to murder his own daughter too? Im 100% fine if you like Claude and no judgement there, but you can’t hate this father, but defend Claude. Thats all im saying

I mean, we all know the emperor lacked emotional knowledge and emotional intelligence but he never had healthy family relationships.
His wife was the only person he’s ever met who genuinely want the best for him, and he lost her too soon. Then emperor spent years mourning her.
Of course I can’t forgive him for saying Philomel should live like a dead rat, but to him what he was doing to Philomel was 1- not wrong 2-very indulging. He’d see her and even wish his childhood was like hers (no assassination attempts at every turn, no siblings fight for power)
From the viewpoint of a reader I’ll give him grace for being a character who has to take actions without having the whole picture
At the beginning scene, when Philomel is being executed and ask if he ever saw her as a daughter, the emperor didn’t had the chance to answer bc blonde called for them to leave. So we never knew his true feelings.
But then he did change. He started caring for her and when she returned to the castle, the emperor apologized for his wrongdoings, even saying she didn’t HAD to forgive him. And that he has no excuses for what he said. We can see that he’s sincere.
Now, blonde is clearly Isekai’d and should not be trusted. She’s sus af
