You can’t expect the person who was betrayed to be the one to open the door for reconciliation. Asking the ML to “give signals” so she can apologize is an unfair reversal of victim and perpetrator roles. He found out he was being used how else was he supposed to react but to distance himself? Expecting him to be open or receptive immediately after being hurt shows a lack of empathy for the one who was betrayed. The truth is, he has no obligation to be understanding at this stage. He’s not required to make things easier for the person who hurt him. If someone breaks your trust, “you’re not the one who should create a “safe space” for them to come and apologize”.

I feel like these kinds of comments completely ignore the root of the problem. The FL wasn’t the victim of some innocent misunderstanding she deliberately approached the ML with the clear intention of manipulating him to get revenge on her ex. That’s not just a mistake, that’s full-on betrayal. And now people expect him to just “talk it out” with her like nothing happened? He was used, emotionally exposed, and when he reacts like asking his niece to distance herself from someone who betrayed him he’s instantly painted as the villain. Minimizing what the FL did and putting all the blame on the ML is refusing to see the full picture. They both made mistakes, sure, but she’s the one who broke the trust first. Not everything can be fixed with a conversation when real damage has been done.
And just to clarify he didn’t “stand her up.” He was actually at the agreed-upon place, but OBVIOUSLY after finding out the truth, how logical would it have been to just show up and act like nothing happened? She called him, and that’s when she realized he had discovered everything. How far was FL planning to go with her lies? When exactly was she going to tell the truth after all that time, after all the feelings and shared moments? If you actually consider the gravity of the situation, it’s not something you can just brush off because “poor girl, she’s hurting.” What about “his” pain? The real victim here is the one who was in the dark the whole time.

Agreed. While he did mess up, he’s just expecting her to do something without recognizing that if she does want to be with him or feels guilty, he hasn’t really given her any signs that she CAN apologize. He is the one who started closing off and pushing her further away, and he can’t really be upset she hasn’t texted him after his reaction to her before. A respectful person will wait until its clear that the one they hurt is ready to talk to them again and listen, and he has shown her the opposite, so why is he upset that she isn’t communicating?

How can you blame the victim just because he reacted humanly? He found out that she had approached him with ulterior motives. I think he would be less disappointed if it were about his money and reputation, but the reason was another man. I would also feel used and think that she had made a fool of me. So give him some time to think about it and sort out his feelings.

I mean, I wouldn’t talk to him after I was stood up. I would take that as a hint to leave him alone. THEN he tells his niece to resign so she isn’t with her anymore. I wouldn’t talk to him either. Sure it was a misunderstanding and things done wrong on her part, but he didn’t even talk to her about it. I feel bad for her.
