In the original novel, the countess wasn’t charged with a crime. She just went back to her family’s territory and lived there. Also, the cousin (I am going to call her ogFL since it was shown there was never really any og novel to begin with) didn’t betray her parents like this. She lost her title as well. She even came back to FL and was like ‘I forgive you’ and sh!t but FL shut her down real quick by saying she doesn’t need her forgiveness.
I like the countess’s punishment here better. She deserved it. She basically killed FL’s mother.
