She thought the MC died because of her, so her solution is to make a pact with a demon? That’s not love or sacrifice — that’s emotional instability. Love means trusting someone’s choices and legacy, not throwing away your humanity because you feel guilty.
To put it in real-world terms: imagine someone loses a loved one in a car accident and blames themselves — so they go and join a dangerous cult thinking that will somehow bring the person back. You wouldn’t call that love. You’d call that trauma, guilt, and a complete breakdown of rational thinking. That’s what Camus is doing here — making an extreme, self-destructive choice to soothe her own conscience.
Camus didn’t consider consequences or morality. She acted out of guilt and desperation, not strength or wisdom. That kind of behavior might make for dramatic storytelling, but it doesn’t make her a healthy or worthy partner for the MC.
