Why should he defend her as much as he can when the evidence showed she never loved him? Thats a betrayal. I wouldnt defend my partner if tons of evidence came out that showed they cheated on me that many times.
You can be mad at him, but you cant really blame him for jumping ship in the immense heartbreak he was feeling at luce cheating on him that many times. For him it was like their love was nothing of course he was angry
To be honest too much MONOLOGUE and DIALOGUE regardless the main plot is not necessary you can just go ahead and move the events in normal pace rather than giving too much details and long conversation ..

Its not like he was the one who set her up. He was head over heels in love with her and the second best analysist for handwriting in the empire told him the letters were legitimate, and had multiple partisles testifying to sleeping with her. The fingerprint thing is only a recent form of forensics in the story.
That guy had his whole world destroyed and is so traumatised and angry he only agreed to a business marriage 5 years later, and still can’t bear to look at her.
Imagine thinking the absolute worst of someone for five years, having both your life and hers completely destroyed, only to find out all the evidence was a complete lie and she was innocent.
He’s about to go through a whirlwind of trauma all over again knowing that a large portion of the empire conspired to destroy his happily ever after, and that he was manipulated into believing them.
This guy is going to have serious guilt for something he was also a victim of.
