Even is someone is brainwashed and manipulated against their will to hurt another, it doesn’t negate the trauma that the other person experienced. You can acknowledge that it wasn’t in someone’s control but still not want anything to do with them because it triggers you.
ALLOW your characters to be human, not saints. It’s more realistic and less frustrating as a reader. There’s way to many other stories where the FL learns that her father/brother/love interest was cursed/brain-washed/etc and then just, immediately forgives?? Even if they will eventually move on and maybe forgive, let the readers see the struggle!
