↓ Corset were a thing for more than 500 years, misusages were bound to happen many times through history. The practice of really tight and small corsets was a thing that happened much later than when the story seems to be taking place, but it doesn’t mean they don’t understand it. They just merged two eras which is common within those stories so I wouldn’t even hold that against the author and artist lol

Wendy the issue here isn’t weither they understand corsets or not. It’s pointing out how toxic that mindset is. She’s wearing a corset too small for her body while she’s a teenager and still growing. Just like medicine can become poison, using something good in the wrong way can have the adverse effect than what you want. Corsets were indeed what you said however in this case it’s the wrong tool being used for the job at hand. It’s not that they didn’t understand corsets, it’s that you didn’t understand the context.

Another author who doesn’t understand corsets. They actually help keep spines straight and that’s not what someone in a tight lace corset looks like (and it was literally the historical bra, they were rarely if ever worn to bed and provided support both for breasts and the whole outfit as it allowed the weight to be carried on the hips rather than entirely relying on the shoulders)
