Some noble families get granted additional titles as recognition for service or loyaly to the crown. Or, in fudal eras they can sometimes conquer neighboring nobles territories and get the lands and titles those nobles once held. In either case it is common to pass your highest title to your firstborn and to pass the additional titles to your other children if you favor them. ML being the second child got passed down the lower title of count and the older brother will be given the dukal title once he is married I believe.
