Xontine protected the og fl because she likes small cute things , not really romantic but kinda feeling towards a pet or a child , the reason she approached her and the Princess was because she wanted more ppl seeing to her safety . the Princess is clearly shown to be someone who is not interested in a “partner” what she wants is a conquest she want to possess and show off if shay gives in to her she would be just a piece in her collection like peri , and shay knows this , from the start shay knew that the Princess would like a challenge so she is playing the role the Princess wants . the ml on the the other hand is actually being sincere and genuine and only wants her , and we know since he did not care about the 4th villainess in the novel , the reason he cares about shay goes beyond her looks .
