ok, for people who are getting confused with gender thing, its a case of translating things too literally, and it not working out.they cant call the emperor, “empress” because in their original culture they have a clearly defined station so instead we get female emperor. unfortunately this lead to all gender type things of the emperor being masculine, which wouldnt be too awkward originally, but when literally translated to english, makes it quite odd sounding. the issue is same issue with all the guys being referred to as women solely as a reflection of their position as concubines, rather than representative of their biological gender.
TLDR – translaters translated too literally, making it confusing for english cultures.
