This story has fallen off a cliff. What a disappointment after a couple early excellent arcs.
Agreed with PurpleSamuraiGai and KazuhaMyBeloved. Let’s count the number of plot inconsistencies and stupidity.
– Dozens if not hundreds of people die and people all people give a shit about is that one of the perpetrators died from excessive force? One that attempted to also kill four professors? This would be like a school shooting but 10x worse. This would leave a city and a school utterly traumatized and in mourning. Nobody is going around saying, “I heard he killed a WYKES.” They would be saying, the terrorists and Alacryans killed HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. Theo was burned nearly to death. Doradrea was beheaded. Claire had a spike through her chest and beyond manhwa logic would be already dead.
– Zero mention so far of how the Alacryans have clearly attacked AND TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY all across the continent. Everyone knows about the new continent. It’s an active investigation into their presence. A lance even died already. There’s a barrier they haven’t seen before.
– Council instantaneously has a decision on the relatively minor and dumb event of when so many attacks were happening across the continent that the lances couldn’t show up on time. What “unclear circumstances” in their decree? It’s been five minutes? I’m sure this will be deus ex machina’ed by something dumb like the council has been infiltrated. The children of the rulers are literally on the disciplinary committee that was attacked and had members killed AND the daughter of the elven kings was kidnapped, beaten, and had mutilation threatened. FOUR OF THE COUNCIL HAVE CHILDREN THAT WERE ATTACKED OR KIDNAPPED. The author clearly isn’t a parent to think those parents wouldn’t be immediately through the next portal to see their kids, ensure they’re safe, and understand what happened.
– Lances were too late to stop anyone (because Arthur had to aura farm), but can magically figure out who was “tortured” by whom upon immediate arrival. Were they watching? So they had time to watch but not intervene? It’s a battlefield and utter chaos was happening everywhere with bodies. The blood steps being a hint is such a dumb excuse.
– Arthur spends he sweet time aura farming by walking in slowly instead of doing his best to settle things quickly so Claire and others can receive healing
– Everything with the headmaster. Is also Alacryan, knows an attack is imminent, but sets up no warning systems, no defenses for the school, no lockdown procedures with the professors, etc.
I could go on, but this is turning into another manhwa that goes to trash in the latter parts of the series (A Returner’s Magic, Latna King, etc.)
A better way to write this:
– Have this simply be a devastating defeat for Dicathen as Alacryan attacks across the continent create a Pearl Harbor
– Lance Wykes mourns his brother and tries to understand what happened from others without some immediate attack. He has complex emotions and resentment toward everyone for what happens and doesn’t know how to process them. He doesn’t say something cliche like, ‘TO A WYKES?!’
– Don’t throw your main character in jail for another shit / cliche prison arc
– Take this chapter to show the number of bodies lined up and the sheer devastation as people look for survivors, etc. Show proper mourning. Show someone holding Doradrea’s head. Show the DC gathered around their fallen comrades. The lances didn’t even canvas the school to ensure every terrorist was cleared. Have them force everyone to reveal their back to see if they have the markings
