So frustrating. Since half way through the school arc, the writing takes one step forward, one step back. All this justification about Korean “manhwa” tropes when the author is from Seattle and was clearly inspired by Avatar the Last Airbender. It misses everything that made Avatar good. How did Alacrya invent the steam engine or find a way to power their ship? Did they steal the plans? Why did Dicathen only create one ship instead of building a navy to destroy them at sea? Given the ability of strong mages to fly and Asuras knowledge and ability to transport themselves to both continents, why is it better to take a ship rather than have an instantaneous portal that can transport divisions? Is it a power constraint? They can just fly over and set up portals? Is it a mana limitation? There’s no internal consistency.
Good writing of magic systems focuses on the limitations and clever ways to overcome that. Brandon Sanderson does an amazing job of this. A way more compelling angle would be Dicathen has a non-magical technological edge because of Arthur, Gideon, etc. but they’re weak in the manipulation and management of mana. Instead it’s “oops, Alacrya knows the steam engine, too. The only one that can save us in the genius Arthur!!!!”
Let’s see between Arthur and Tess who gets the elven Lance spot but so far this is still going by the most cliche numbers. They should have stayed in school way longer and built the conspiracy like Harry Potter until things broke open halfway through their schooling or something. Everything is so rushed and jerky.

Id say its bad writing. They are making so many imbalanced decisions throughout the story all the more trying to make MC a balanced character yet has so many other attributes higher than most. Other manhwas typically keep the character op without so many different plot twists that affect the balanace of mc’s power. A good example of this failure from a different anime is dragonball z it got so boring that goku trains so much and there is always a stronger opponent, and at times stronger because they were “coughed” in to existence.
We are seeing that here when they finally get one advantage and its taken away from them with the ship. At least give the so called losing side some believable advantages and not just rely on mc jesus plot jutsu

@BadJosy, look at this way, don’t just chalk it off as bad writing, realistically, this is a common troupe to hype up the adversary, make them seem all the more powerful, I could list many examples from many different manhwas. mangas and anime alike. It’s around this time where everyone loses hope and the mc comes in and saves the day. The over glorification of the heroic fantasy, that is why we read these things. It not because of the common nuances, take transformers prime for instance, at face value the decepticons have seemingly no end to pawns and weapons etc. but in the end they get their ass wooped by Optimus, do we wail about how bad the writing is then? Quite frankly no, so I see no nuance here. I suggest studying elements of literature before making a comment like that again

the writers gives everything to the enemy, all advantages, even the ship that was mc’s idea in this world, they have it. So with them being stronger, having the technology that didn’t exist in this world, having the upper hand, the surprise advantage, will they lose to these weakling beens just because of one man? lol. Since MC came from another world, at least he should have the technology as advantage, since he lived in a different world. But not even that is on their side. If they don’t get dizimated to only 1 man, I am not accepting this. or it is gonna be a writing even worse than it already is.
