Carcel was the one who always lived upright and those given then blessing of always starting his life differently and has no memory.
Inez and crown prince and to the extend Emilia no has regretted their life and also taking their own life while carcel has always wait for the death coming at him.
This is also why I don’t like Emiliano, he knew how bad Inez life and how it’s torture her but he doesn’t think he is adequate to even help her even a little. He saw the horror from her losing him and he doesn’t even come to her to ease her guilt, at least give her a proper goodbye and closure and told her than carcel did not do anything to him.
The difference with carcel is that he stays and always root for Inez happiness. With memory or not, carcel who for the past 2,3,4 life start with no memory has always try to give Inez what’s the best that he can do.
It all goes astray because crown prince remembers the 1st life and sabotaging their 2nd life.
Tbh as much as hate crown prince, I also can’t accept Emiliano selfish desire to be out of her life for years and years until he gets caught, it’s like he never really loves her, just like she also never really love Emiliano, they just happen to get married because of the conditions. In any other circumstances, they will never be together but still, at least he should’ve come to her to talk about it.

@lightsphere not exactly. Spoilers tho. Ines and carcel were married in their first life. They really loved each other. But both died tragically. They both get 1 wish. Carcels wish was for Ines to be happy and have a child even when it’s not with him, but if he one day, he still would like a chance to be with her. He vowed he will never wed anyone else in any lifetime.
Ines’ wish was for carcel to be happy.
Technically, Ines’ wish will never be fulfilled since Carcel can only be happy with her and carcel’s wish were granted having Ines try to be happy with someone else in 2 other lifetimes. But Ines wasn’t able to attain happiness in those 2 lifetime as well. The only way their wish can come true if they find their way back to each other. Which is this 4th life.
Ines only remember her 2nd and 3rd life because she took her life. She tampered with her faith. As said in this chapter memory is a punishment.
She doesn’t remember the first because she died because of illness/years of being poisoned.
Emiliano was never her soulmate. It’s always been Carcel.
Ines also didn’t love emiliano like that. In this life, he wanted to atone by ruining his life. That’s why she sponsored him. But they will never meet because they already what fate it will lead to.

If the crown prince also remembered their past lives, it will finally make sense of the phrase he said “She has always been like this” refering to Ines being cheerful when Carcel came to visit her for a bit, even though we know that Ines has never shown such emotions in this life Infront of him in this life. He remembers her past personality, @lightsphere already explain this pretty well so this clears up a LOT of things that had me confused.
This is just phenomenal. I never saw this coming even though it was teased before. My jaw dropped and I can only feel pity while looking at Carcel, realising that Ines has gone through hell more than once.

I read somewhere in the comments before that this is their 4th life. The first life was carcel and ines was married, and when carcel died, he wished not to be loved by ines again in the next life.
In the 2nd life, they both forget each other, as what the crown prince said, it means he remembered the first life. He deliberately made ines suffered and he never really loved her since she was carcel’s wife before.
The 3rd life was when ines and the painter met, and they had a child. Ines only remembered the 2nd life and tried to change it while carcel has no memories of the 1st and 2nd life.
The present is their 4th life. Where ines still remembers everything except the 1st life. Emiliano the painter remembers the 3rd life. And i suspect the crown prince also remembers his past lives. While carcel is now regaining his past memories including the 1st life where he and ines were a couple.
That is what i understand.
