So… I wonder if that Mysterious Merc is somehow related to the Dragon Emperor? Like, another piece of him that broke free to assist Eva?

Either that, or the Merc was there in the original timeline, had feelings for Eva, and regressed alongside her to try and help her change the world…. even if it means acting on his own and speeding up certain events.
