@EvalleB Parents are supposed to be a childs emotional shelter so being “closed off” is throwing your child into the emotional streets. Being cloosed off to friends is like not having guests over being closed off to your kid makes it so they have no real home only a physical shelter. And, it does make you a bad person, or if you really couldent controll yourself enough to open up to your child or even find another guardian for them (and regularly do checkups to make sure they are really cared for) you are a grossly incompitant person unqualified to be a parent. Sometimes it’s also easier to lock a kid in the basement if they bother you… Sometimes easy choices are the wrong choices.

If it was a case of the dad having grief over his firsf wife, that only goes so far before it becomes selfish neglect. His daughter was there and he chose to turn a blind eye so he really cant say much when she puts up walls and closes the door to a relationship with him.

Perhaps not the most emotionally supportive dad, but it seems like he worked hard to support her and he probably brought in the evil stepmother trying to make sure she had that support. It seems he really cares about her and likely has no idea about how she’s treated by the stepmom. Poor guy, I hope he gets a chance later to earn redemption.

It’s interesting to see that MC thought that way. Usually the child in the relationship thinks that way. But sometimes when a spouse dies, it’s just easier to be closed off. Doesn’t make you a bad person. I suspect that that is what happened with MC’s father. To distract from the grief he probably kept himself busy. Some people are like that.
It’s interesting to see that MC still had some growing up to do.
We all have our own way of handling grief. MC trying to dictate what and how her father should feel is actually the crux of this problem. I hate to say it but she doesn’t have the right to dictate his feelings. She could be angry when she was young but I hope now that she’s married she will come to see things in a different light.
He was also wrong for not being there for her but this isn’t his story; it’s her’s.

You have to apologize even though the person doesn’t accept your apologize.
Better sorry then never

Some say better late than never 🥺 They might dive deeper into his reasons and how he actually feels but for now he doesn’t seem like a bad guy and by that I mean a irredeemable villain, he just seems like someone who made a mistake and can have a redemption arc.

dad’s a little too late to be sorry
