I think both dudes are trash for different reasons.

Duke for being completely fine with a decoy’s death, treating her badly snd acting like an ass towards her.

Whether he knows shes the savior or not, it doesnt take away his poor treatment of her as a person in general.
He was perfectly fine with a person dying as a decoy so he can get this fabled fiance that he’s obsessed with and hes okay with her death cuz they “got sufficient compensation” (which he has no idea the terms and dgaf to find out). This is why he is trash.

i think everyone’s dismay is stemming from the fact that he hasn’t been treating her fairly at all (yet, and idk if we should be happy with a redemption arc), and not because he is being misled and can’t discern facts, and not investigate her fam at all… that he is allowing this decoy situation is questionable also compounds…
