@melbelwel she returned after agreeing to stay with her father but right before her mother left. That’s why her mother was shocked she mentioned divorce so suddenly! To go with her mother was not just as easy as just leaving. There needed to be a more legitimate reason than “I suddenly dislike my dad!”

I don’t know why she didn’t just go with her mom to start with. And who wants to bet that she refuses to go with her mom, because she has a “plan” for revenge. If the author would write it better she could still have her revenge even if she stayed with her mom, but of course that won’t happen.
