Whether the Duke is just not paying attention or whether he’s ignoring the way they treat her, he’s despicable. He’s using her as a shield and a tool, knows she’s experienced some abuse, and hasn’t been ensuring she’s at least treated with the respect her position is due, even if it’s temporary.
