I too, believe that the Duke went crazy after losing his beloved wife, and sees Grace in Aria as a coping mechanism for his grief after Grace’s died

Guess I’ll throw my hat into the guessing ring as well. Based on the persistent negative thoughts Grace has, as well as the visible self-hatred that’s come up several times now, I feel like the og Grace most likely ended her own life in the og story. As for her husband…. he genuinely seems to care for her, as do her maids, and both parties seem to get genuinely angry when others shame her. So my theory is ML going “wild” in the og story is him lashing out at the world as a whole (and maybe even Aria) for what he could perceive as their role in pushing Grace to end her life.

Okay so I don’t think Benjamin hates Grace at all. I think Benjamin was acting all sweet and stuff because he wanted to kidnap Aria and make her heal grace in hopes of brining her back In the original story. (This is crazy but this is my head canon so…)

I’m thinking that the voices she hears that are all disparaging are some sort of curse and Aria’s involved.
