I’m afraid the idea is, this brother has *always been* kind of a creep. He’s only really started to care about her (as opposed to being shallowly polite) since he recently realized that she can balance or suppress his instability. Whatever this is turning into, it’s sourced from a selfish dependency with no real investment in *her* wellbeing. Elodie can sense that, which is why she’s always wondering why he’s suddenly hanging around.
Whereas the idiot redhead (Carlot?) genuinely feels sorry about how he basically ruined Elodie’s childhood.
