Getting engaged after your awakening ceremony (at 8years old!?!) I could see it among nobles to be a thing for that to be the age that they be informed that they need to look for an engagement partner that they like and have them introduced to all of the noble children around their age just so that they can find out who they like and who they don’t like and narrow down their selection until they come of age.
Now I know nobles like to make their children have arranged marriages fairly young in order to groom them to be in favor of each other so that it’s easier to make the arranged marriage have a supposedly higher success rate.
Still I really don’t like it.

Did he just propose to her??? Didn’t he just slander people who proposed to someone at this age, also that is a really stupid custom. They’re like what nine or something and they’re like go get engaged. Like what?!
