First, EvalleB said this was a Japanese manga and that the FL could say no. Then, Melbelwel said this is a Korean manhwa (it’s not) and that FL can’t say no because consequences. Then, irfanabharata said that “Yeah, this is in fact a Japanese manga” and even provided the Japanese title for it. They even provided proof of what EvalleB was saying was correct after all and that Melbelwel was incorrect in saying she can’t say no. The FL has the choice to say no. But you’re going on about things that have nothing to do with the story or why the original two commenters were disagreeing and arguing.
Melbelwel WAS WRONG. PERIOD. Wrong on both accounts: this is Japanese and FL CAN say no. Melbelwel started this whole thing and it’s her fault this has gotten out of hand. She shouldn’t have talked if she didn’t know. It’s like she didn’t even read the chapter. There are literally Japanese characters in the manga.

I should reiterate that a protagonist should have at least 2 of these few characteristics in a story: Engaging, Competent, Proactive, Likeable, Relatable, Interesting (and other criteria).
This FL literally fails to meet EVERY criteria possible. This story would be significantly better if it was solely from the prince’s POV rather than hers.

@Melbelwel like the other person mentioned: that guy literally said it in this chapter that she can refuse the engagement. Whether or not he does anything after that (like destroy her family) is up to him and we don’t know about that yet. That’s why I said “she’s has the option to say no apparently”. I’m just going by what the story puts forth. Maybe read the chapter next time. Your historical examples are a moot point now. They don’t apply to this situation.

This IS a Japanese manga. The Japanese title is 今度こそ、この結婚を回避します～愛のないあなたと離れる方法～ (Kondokoso, Kono Kekkon wo Kaihi Shimasu – Ai no Nai Anata to Hanareru Houhou). Get this correct before you go around correcting people.
Next, those cases are real life. But this story already mentioned that she has a choice in rejecting him. HE LITERALLY SAID IT IN THIS CHAPTER. HE SAID THAT SHE CAN REFUSE THE ENGAGEMENT. Are you not reading the chapter or something?
She wasted an entire year doing nothing. And then wasted another two days, which is why he showed up here at her home. She’s such a stupid FL. She’s too stupid to do anything about anything.

To start with this is Korean not Japanese, not that it makes too much of a difference in this case. Next your thinking is too modern and western. Go look into Imperial China, Japan, Rome, Russia and Kingdoms like England, Germany and such. Look into what happens when someone refuses the kings, or emperors. Especially anyone their interested in romantically or for marriage. Guess what it doesn’t go well trying to reject them.

This is the problem with a lot of Japanese FLs: they never seem to any intelligence or wisdom when they regress.
This MC had a lot of ways to avoid him, but she’s always picking the STUPIDEST choices. Even with this proposal, she could just say no but she took two f*cking days! And yes, she has the option of saying no apparently.
