But, why did Dorothea pick the fight with Ray to begin with? It’s pretty clear that if she expressed any interest Ray would have happily traded the crown for a hug. The dude let her kill him, and Dorothea knew it from the moment it happened. So why? Easy. That was Ethan.
Dorothea didn’t really want the throne the first time around. She’s not into this time around either. Ethan is the only person who wanted Dorothea to be Empress. He manipulated the situation and forced the unnecessary tragedy to make her more perfect since he couldn’t process actually being in love with someone. He made the deal with the light spirit to give that another go.
