I think the thing everyone is ignoring here is that she’s the lady of the house and her husband won’t listen to her even when she DOES have something to contribute because she’s just his s*x-dolly and he doesn’t actually see her as a person.
Being kind and sweet and understanding is easy when you have a pet or a dolly. With real people you have to not only whisper sweet words but also let them make their own choices and mistakes.
Even if this WERE a mistake, and he thinks she’s not ready for it… is he making any effort to make her see that? No. He’s shutting her down instead of doing the smart thing which would’ve been putting her through three days of grueling training to show her exactly how much she can and can’t handle.
And if she COULD endure it, it would just prove she could probably handle the journey itself, which would only mean she’d have to handle the journey PLUS healing magic which would probably put her sick in bed and THEN she’d have to admit she’s not ready for it and would miss the campaign for legitimate reasons and her husband would’ve been seen BY HER to be taking her seriously.
This isn’t really about whether or not she’s ready. It’s about Max being treated like a THING all her life, and now even with her husband who’s usually so kind and loving, treating her like a THING again. Or a child. Not believing she can make her own decisions or come to her own conclusions once being made aware of things. Believing all he has to do is bellow and command.
Not to mention, we don’t know if she could do it because RIFTAN has been holding her back from the beginning. She could’ve been through training the MINUTE she became a mage, but Riftan wants his dolly to stay pristine.
Honestly the only reason I’m still here, even though my teeth are gritting every time he talks down to her, is because I sense that SOMETHING might change because character development. I certainly hope this isn’t one of those ‘the woman was wrong and the man needed to put her in her place’ stories, because I am out if it is.

I don’t care, I believe in her.. everyone start at the beginning and try to learn, she might be fragile but that doesn’t mean she can’t become stronger someday. 🙄😏

They should just stop indulging her at this point. And yes I’m venting but come on we all know she won’t be able to survive long on the journey I mean they’re better off without a mage than taking her. Not that she’s incompetent but she doesn’t have the physique and stamina for it. She should be at home and do what she can. Send supplies and what not. I believe that her knowing her capabilities would help her improve more than to just rush in and force her way into situations she’s not ready to handle
