I think you missed some key parts of the conversation… He’s not really blaming anybody but himself. He is stating that he’s weak and has no power to keep his fiancé safe and self-blame by comparing himself against his brother and that the fact that a king has more power to properly give out punishments where it’s due. Unfortunately, a child of his age does not have any power at all to do anything except try to compete against their siblings for the throne. And sometimes, having your only weakness, which is the person that is dear to you or whatever you cherish, can cause a traumatic effect on anyone, especially on a child. So that’s why he wishes he could be like his brother who has more popularity than him. It’s like voting for a president in some places, the more popularity votes from the people you get, the closer you are to become one. And that’s sometimes how some crowning of royalty usually work through connections of influential figures and the people within the kingdom.
It’s complicated and it sucks.

Prince Sardid needs to go after the aristocrats that planned the harm on his fiancé. Hew shouldn’t think he needs to be better than his brother. His brother didn’t plan anything. He KNOWS his brother didn’t plan anything. He KNOWS the aristocrats want to push his brother to be king, yet instead of blaming the people who harmed his beloved he wants to be king? What about revenge on the people who thought they could do this against him??? Just because he suddenly becomes king he’ll forgive them? Pretty dumb.
