The FL family is nearly bankrupt so her sister has to marry a rich man now. Also this party was chosen to help stop the rumors about the FL sister and the Duke. The sister just got her reputation ruined completely and she will probably not be able to find a husband now. Justice is served.

Slapping the sister back would have escalated the situation to a purely physical fight. A hair-pulling face-slapping fight at a party attended by aristocrats would make them BOTH look trashy. By not resorting to violence FL made the sister look bad both morally and societally. A slap she’d received many times before is a small price to pay for watching her sister set her life aflame!
