I’m not sure they knew about the tower, but they fully wanted her as their daughter/sister and wanted to bring her back into the family via marriage. Likely the guy saying she was his real daughter made it impossible for them to meet her and they weren’t allowed to visit (they probably didn’t even know the tower was so terrible a place), and after her mother’s death, would have taken custody even if they tried to keep her (since it was ‘proven’ that she wasn’t their family member). The only way they thought they could get her back was by having her marry someone they adopted into the family. So they did want her back – probably never actually ever wanted her to leave. Then she went missing…
I think it’s likely that the girl taking her place now is using some sort of magic to twist the family to her whims, but for some reason it doesn’t work on ML (maybe it’s blood-based magic?)

Ok, so he’s misunderstanding the situation with Peri’s death but I really can’t blame him since Peri had likely perfected her magic with the clay dolls. However, he’s fully aware and disgusted by the Exer family and I respect and support him for that👍
