Yes she is older than him but you have to remember she just got out of an abusive marriage. I’m older than her but I wouldn’t take any 20 something year old seriously. She’s at the age you date to marry, he’s at an age you date to date.
However, through the story we know he’s not like that but he doesn’t explicitedly state otherwise either. He knows she is judging him based on his age and she even told him earlier when then first went out drinking that she thought he was trying to have fun. That she didn’t want him to mess around with an old lady. He didn’t clarify the situation then either and instead lets her make assumptions. Unfortunately since she was abused and endured it so it makes sense she wouldn’t ask someone his age ‘where is this relationship going?’ And instead assume he’s just after her body. She’s only been with one man too. He is going to have to be honest. And the story is starting to at hint that he probably met her when he was getting heart surgery and most likely was in love with her ever since.
Definitely the story isn’t perfect but I think it’s extremely realistic that they are dancing around the topic. She’s an abused older woman and he is a younger man chasing an older woman. If we take away all that we know, we’d probably have an somewhat closer opinion of that one coworker who was a bitch. That or that he is using her.
