I think her father didn’t like the engagement at first because he hadn’t decided to support the first prince yet. Engagement happened because she wanted but then when the Duke finally sided with the first prince her reputation effected the engagement and they had to break it. Since the Duke would be the on the side of supporting the first prince already, he’d need someone to still be engaged to the prince. Hence bringing in the original FL.
So I’m guessing that she sent the annulment documents now, because she was betting on her father still not having decided on which prince to support. But it seems like her father had decided on the first prince hence now refusing her request of the annulment.

So confusing!!!! She said the villain Duke, her father, wants to tie relationship with the 1st prince so as to gain power but then she says that the Duke was never fond of 1st prince anyway and that the relationship was kind of her idea so it’s easy to break the engagement and then at the end she says the Duke is in support of 1st prince.
The story seems to fluctuate according to the author’s convenience to match the flow of story; like two stories are flowing in parallel but intermingled with each other 🙄
